MaxFli TRI Course

Objectives

  1. Apply the eight-competency instructional set to live or recorded observation.
  2. Produce specific behavioural notes with competency tags (objective evidence — Doc 9995 Part I, 6.3.3 paraphrased; SD29 v9.1 observable CRM/NTS behaviours).
  3. Convert notes into a tailored training focus statement; practise highlighting strengths, root-cause thinking, and behaviour→outcome links.
  4. Flag any observed reduction in safety margins.

Competency focus

All eight (observation skill) · Situation Awareness · Communication

Timing

Mins Activity Instructor notes
0–20 Competency set walkthrough with airline examples Do not read protected manuals; use Module 02 adaptations
20–40 Bad note / good note clinic Candidates rewrite weak notes
40–55 Brief observation protocol Event → fact → tag → park judgement
55–100 Observation exercise (video/role-play) Individual notes on observation sheet
100–130 Pair calibration Align tags; discuss disagreements
130–160 From notes to tailored focus Each pair writes one next-scenario objective; include one strength + one root cause
160–180 Debrief of the exercise itself (meta) What made observation hard? Link to sim workload

Resources

Success look-like

Notes are specific enough for a third TRI to visualise events; include strengths and root causes; tailored focus references competencies/NTS, not vague “more practice.”
